Dec 2 – Manila | Khenpo Dhondup Tashi, the center’s head monk, briefly introduces the two recently published center books, and why we compiled these books.
The two books are ‘A Guide to Merit-Making’ and ‘Golden Steps’. For a long time, there was a desire from visitors and new members to understand the profound symbols and objects found inside the temple. However, for a long time, this desire remained unfulfilled.
Since late 2017, at the urging of some temple members, Khenpo Tashi began conceptualizing the contents of the book. He brought out many Tibetan sources, most not yet translated into English, and slowly translated and condensed the explanations coming from these literary sources. It was finally printed in October 2020.
A Guide to Merit-Making was written as a guide to the visitor or devotee. It begins from where the visitor stands outside the temple, up to the objects and activities that he sees as he enters inside. It introduces the symbols outside and inside the temple, and the many activities and rituals of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition.
It also contains many stories from the Buddha’s life story and beyond, telling how some symbols and activities started from these significant events.
Thank you to the directors for supporting the compiling and publishing of the books. Alex Co helped in compiling the books. Josefa Reyes edited and proofread them. J-Marc Mendoza graciously created the cover artworks.
We would like to thank all the sponsors and members who contributed to the publishing of these 2 books.
