August 13 – Manila | The monks and some lay members presented the temple’s relief donations for the Earthquake-stricken victims of Itbayat, Batanes to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) last Tuesday.
Captain Armand Balilo, Chief of Public Information Office of the PCG greeted the monks and lay members at the PCG Headquarters in South Harbor, Manila, and welcomed the donations. The relief donations consisted of 10 sacks of rice and several boxes of instant noodles and biscuits.
On July 27, 2019, a 5.9 magnitude earthquake and a 5.4 magnitude aftershock struck Batanes, a group of islands in the northernmost point of the Philippines. 911 families or 2,963 individuals were affected, with an estimated ₱292 million worth of construction damages brought about by the calamity*.
Batanes are a remote group of islands which are not accessible by land from the main islands, posing difficulty in communication and the transportation of emergency relief goods.
