April 6, 2021 – Manila | It is with sad news for our center to inform everyone that Mr Carlos Cruz, our center’s Chairman, passed away peacefully last April 3. He was 95.

In 1992, co-founders Mr. Cruz and Mr. Ong started our center – Philippine Palyul Chang Chub Dhargye Dharma Center, or Philippine Palyul for short. Mr Cruz and Mr Ong were instrumental in inviting the Nyingma School, the Palyul Lineage to help spread Buddhism in the Philippines.

Thanks to Mr. Cruz’s leadership, our center is now robust, self-sufficient, teeming with activities and outreach programs in line with the teachings of Buddha.

Our center will do prayers and lamp offerings for Mr. Cruz. We asked everyone to join us in prayers for his swift rebirth in better realms.

We suggest members to be vegetarians for 7 days and dedicate these merits to Mr. Cruz. Om Ami Dewa Hrih

Below is the Official Letter from Mugsang Kuchen Rinpoche, Namdroling Monastery in India, on the news of the passing of Mr Carlos Cruz.

The letter reads:

To all the family members of an extraordinary human being Late Cai Yong Liang Carlos Cruz,

I am truly sorry to hear of the loss of Cai Yong Liang Carlos Cruz on 3rd of April, 2021 at the age of 94. When His Holiness Drubwang Pema Norbu Rinpoche was going under hard times in establishing and running Namndroling Monastery Late Cai Yong Liang Carlos Cruz had been of great support, which Namdroling Monastery will never forget. In Philippines also without his gracious support the Palyul Centre is impossible. His generous and tireless support towards His Holiness Penor Rinpoche, Palyul Namdroling Monastery, Palyul Centre in Philippines, myself. and so forth in million ways will be always remembered.

For the family members: the death after a birth is the nature of samsara that no one can escape, but the most important thing for the children and family members to repay the kindness of the great father is firstly to accumulate as many merits and dedicate to him, and secondly to always keep his vision and advice in mind and follow accordingly in work, business, home. and so on.

Namdroling Monastery will do all the possibilities pujas and prayers for him to purify his negative karmas and habitual tendencies accumulated over many lifetimes so that he may have a smooth transition in bardo, a good rebirth and ultimately attain Buddhahood.

The following pujas and prayers are organized in Namdroling Monastery:

  • The puja of 100 Peaceful and Wrathful Deities every 7th day for 49 days
  • The Three Main Aspiration Prayers: Sukhavati Aspiration Prayers, Samantabhadra’s Aspiration Prayer and The King of Aspiration Prayers
  • Lamp Offerings etc

He will remain with our hearts, and we always include him and you all in our daily prayers.

With sincerest condolences and prayers on the loss of the great father.
