Monastic Vow-Giving

April 7 – Bylakuppe, South India | From April 3 to 6, 2019, Khenchen Pema Sherab Rinpoche, the peerless teacher and monastic vow holder, bestowed the Novice and Full monastic vows to a group of monks and nuns of Namdroling Monastery.

Khenchen Pema Sherab Rinpoche bestowed the Novice monastic vow to 118 monks and 9 nuns. Meanwhile, 61 Novice monks and nuns received the full monastic vow (Bhikshu and Bhikhuni) from him.

The 61 newly-ordained Bhikshus and Bhikshunis (full monastic vow holders) are also moving on to their seventh year of Monastic College studies in the Namdroling Shedra.

The novice vow for monk or nun consists of 36 vows. The full monastic vow typically consists of around 250 vows (for monks) and 360 vows (for nuns).
