June 4 – Manila | The most important part of the year has arrived! The fourth month of the Tibetan lunar calendar.
Starting today until July 2 is “Saga Dawa”, the month of the Buddha’s Birth, Enlightenment and Parinirvana. Vesak Day, the day of the Buddha’s Enlightenment and Parinirvana, will be on June 17, Monday.
We request everyone to do as much virtue and avoid as much non-virtue as possible this month. It is believed that the effects of all virtues and non-virtues done during this time will be multiplied 100,000-fold. It is also a time for Buddhists to become vegetarians and abstain from meat as much as they can.
In the Tibetan Tradition, the Buddha’s birth is celebrated 1 week into the month, on the 7th of the Fourth Lunar Month. Meanwhile, the Buddha’s Enlightenment and Parinirvana is celebrated on the 15th of the month.
These will be on the 9th and 17th of June, respectively.
The temple will have a Buddha Bathing Ceremony on Vesak day, the 17th of June at 6pm. It will be followed by a Buddha Shakyamuni Puja. Everyone is invited.
