June 17 – Manila | Members filled the prayer hall to pray today, Vesak day, Buddha’s Enlightenment and Parinirvana Day.
Buddha-bathing ceremony was also held during the prayer. Buddha bathing is to commemorate the Buddha’s birth. It is very profound, with several layers of meanings, and is an effective way to purify negative Karma and earn merit.
One meaning of bathing the Buddha – “Through the merit of bathing the Buddha, we should aspire to purify our bodily, verbal, and mental actions by eliminating our greed, hatred, and delusion.”
The birth of Buddha into the world revealed a path to liberation for confused and lost sentient beings llike us. Therefore, we hold the Bathing the Buddha Dharma Assembly to celebrate the Buddha’s birthday, as a remembrance and gratitude to this extreme kindness.
