Robes Offering 2018

On May 28, 2018, the annual monastic robes offering was conducted in Namdroling Mother Monastery in South India. This is a Namdroling tradition that our visionary leader, HH Penor Rinpoche III (1932 – 2009) started many decades ago in the Namdroling Monastery that he founded.

From 8:30 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon, His Eminence Gyangkhang Rinpoche, one of Penor Rinpoche’s three heart sons, led the offering on behalf of Namdroling’s sponsors and benefactors.

The monastic robes are holy symbols of Buddha Shakyamuni’s monastic tradition. During the time of Buddha Shakyamuni, faithful lay disciples and benefactors also offered food, shelter, medicine and clothing to his monastic order. For lay people who have taken the basic Buddhist refuge vows, the monastic robes are respected and venerated. The robes, and even a square inch of its cloth, represents the “Jewel of the Sangha”. We must avoid stepping on it or stepping over it, and when it is worn out, it cannot be used to clean or dust dirty things.

The great merit accumulated through such an event is shared with all of Namdroling Monastery’s supporters around the world.
